I am commanded by the Lords Commissioners of the
Admiralty to acquaint you for the information of the
Secretary of State for the Colonies, that in connection
with a report received by My Lords in regard to the proposed
separation of the Army and Navy Ordnance Establishments at
Hong Kong, and in which the question has arisen of the transfer of certain War Department land to the Admiralty,
it is stated by the Naval Commander in Chief that at an
interview with the Governor, His Excellency is of opinion that no difficulty need be apprehended from the Colonial
Government; but that if any transfer of the property from
the Military to the Navy or vice versa were to take place,
it could not be made direct, but must be effected by previously handing back the property to the Colony for retransfer
to the Department concerned.
2. As this condition might affect the estimated cost of the scheme, My Lords will be glad to be informed by the Secretary of State whether such a condition will be insisted upon.
